Director of Fraud

 At TripAdvisor, protecting the integrity of our content is paramount to our business. We are the industry leaders in review fraud detection and we’re looking for a Director of Fraud to drive TripAdvisor’s fraud detection and prevention strategy. This position reports to the Vice President, Content and will lead a team of analysts and investigators based in the US and abroad.

In this role, the Director of Fraud will ensure the quality of our content by introducing innovative new ways to detect and deter fraudulent content, mitigate the impact to the community, and proactively prevent fraudulent occurrences. The Director will also ensure community reports and service issues are resolved in a timely fashion. We are looking for a candidate with an expert understanding of technology and techniques in combating online content bias. The successful candidate will have demonstrable success in leading a fraud organization, improving fraud processes, and implementing best practices. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing fraud detection and prevention strategies
  • Performing data analysis to inform decisions, identify trends, and track progress
  • Acting in an subject matter expert capacity both internally and externally
  • Managing the performance and effectiveness of a team of Content Investigators
  • Improving operational processes in relation to content integrity
  • Ensuring consistent policy administration and alignment across the entire organization
  • Maintaining appropriate staffing levels to ensure all content is processed in a timely manner
  • Keeping informed of new developments and broader trends in this area


  • Must have a minimum of 10+ years of experience in fraud prevention in a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate highly complex and multi-faceted concepts and ideas in a clear and concise way, both in written and verbal formats
  • Excellent business acumen; the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with team members, internal and external customers, and business partners
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, develop and manage staff while maintaining a positive work environment
  • Developed and demonstrated organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, coupled with a self-motivated personality and an ability to exceed expectations in a fast-paced, results oriented environment
  • Proficiency in fraud detection tools
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of at least one of these languages helpful: French, Italian, Spanish, or French
